I did some research to find out how to successfully run a photography website.
I set up my own website via wix.com last year: http://skjaques1996.wixsite.com/mysite
This site gave me information as to what I should include on my account:
Personality - I added a brief explanation of myself and my interest in Photography and the service I provide, simple, makes out I'm a people person quickly to readers. This should make potential clients hopefully like me straight away from the first impression. This information is in the second tab down 'find me' making it something you see before my image collections (if you wanted to view them further after seeing my slideshow on my homepage) making it easy to find out about me, contact or view my location.
Contact information - Having this information displayed on a website, easily accessible, is very important because most potential clients may not bother to try looking for your contact details for more than a minute or so and will soon give up interest in using your services but if they can see your contact details right away, they may consider you more. I have displayed my contact details on my site, just under the information about myself, easily accessible from the 'find me' tab on the left hand side.
Simplicity -
I kept the design of my sight simple with a crisp white background and large, easily readable font to make for an easier, clearer viewing. Along with this I made sure my image collections were evenly spaced out when clicked from the simple tabs on the left hand side. I also have a simple slideshow, moving slowly across the screen whilst on my homepage.
This means there are no bright colours of feeds or videos taking up the screen making my photos are lot easier to see. It is also a neat layout, free of curly fonts and neon colours which are not always easy to make out.
This site informed me to make sure I do not upload any low resolution images to my website so that viewers are not put off, thinking that my work is of low quality.
This site reminded me that I need to keep a link to social networking on my website, social media is more modern, more up to date and can be updated more regularly than a website so people can see what you are up to. Some potential clients may like to follow these social networking sites sor find it easier to contact you via them instead.
I have added links to Facebook, Instagram and Behance to my site next to my contact information so they are easy to find.
I added a few recent collections to my site and shall continue to do so to see if the amount of traffic to my site increases.
In order to gain an audience, I will need to share my site with others.
I added my site link to my Instagram account.
My instagram site often gets views of those who do not follow me, with new people seeing my account/images each time I upload an image.
If I want to see my analytics and traffic to my website I will need to pay for a monthly plan which I shall do when I go down the creative route after my course ends.
Having my own website is very important to showcase my work at a professional standard to any potential clients.
I shall continue to upload to my site in the hope that I am contacted by potential clients.
For now, I need to see an audience so will refer to Instagram, Behance and Format.com as I will be able to gain likes on my image, views and followers so I am updated more with traffic to my images.
